16-bit real time signal controller with 32-bit performanceXE167 and XE164 Series from Infineon
With the XE167 and XE164 series Infineon introduces a new microcontroller family based on the popular and well established C166 architecture. Based on an enhanced C166S V2 core, it outperforms existing 16-bit solutions. The XE167 and XE164 are improved, next generation devices of the full featured 16-bit single-chip CMOS Real Time Signal Controller offering 32-bit performance. A powerful CPU with 66 MIPS performance combined with enhanced I/O capabilities, flexible power management and feature rich peripherals make the XE164 and XE167 the preferred choice for demanding industrial systems such as motor control, power supplies, transportation and communication. Typical applications which benefit from the new microcontrollers are servo drives, appliance motors, HVAC compressors and blowers, stepper motors, industrial pumps, transportation and power supplies. Integration of functions such as voltage regulator, EEPROM emulation with additional flash modules and various clock sources reduce the number of external components and optimize system costs. The XE164 and XE167 series are part of a family with four different PGLQFP packages enabling high levels of system integration and scalability with a rich choice of devices. The XE167 series offers a Dual A/D converter with up to 16+8 channels – compared to the XE164 series with up to 11+5 channels – with optional concurrent sampling and a conversion time down to 1Ìs. Up to 4 (XE164: 3) capture/ compare units (CC6) enable flexible PWM signal generation for any kind of motor control. And up to 118 (XE164: 75) general purpose I/O lines are available with flexible pin assignment. An On-chip Multi- CAN interface (Rev. 2.0B active) with 128 message objects provides up to 5 CAN nodes (XE164: 4 nodes) and gateway functionality. The XE164 is available in a 100-pin green LQFP and the XE167 comes in a 144-pin LQFP, both with 0.5mm pitch. Both devices operate at a single power supply from 3.3 V to 5 V and at the temperature range of –40°C to +85 °C. The new microcontrollers are supported by a large range of development tools and provide on-chip debug support via JTAG interface.
