New families of microcontrollers for the cars and industrial application market
Infineon addresses with its
latest microcontroller the
worldwide trend towards optimization
of the energy efficiency
in electronic controls
which account for a substantial
part of the worldwide energy
consumption. Possibly one
third of the worldwide energy
consumption is electric energy,
of it possibly half by electric
motors.
Generate less CO2?
80 % of all motors found in
lifts, conveyors, fridges, ventilating
fans, water pumps and
wash-ing machines are electrome-
chanically controlled.
Moreover, they are switched
on or off and not electronically
regulated, so that more than
50 % of the energy is lost! It is
estimated that by the wide use
of electrically controlled power
units the worldwide consumption
of electric energy could be
lowered around up to 20 percent.
We find examples of the effective
application of microcontrollers
in the car industry. The
efficiency of cars is continually
increasing, with better performance
from lower cubic
ca-pacities accompanied by
sav-ings in raw material
resources (oil).
Infineon has extended its
range of efficient, high-performance
microcontrollers with
two new families: XC2000 for
automotive applications and
the XE16xx family for industry
sector applications.
