The right Solution from
Osram OS for You
From miniature packages right
through to high-power LEDs,
but always in the form of an
SMT component. You will find
its Topleds® absolutely ideal.
These are already being used
in many different application
areas and can be supplied
with or without a lens, as well
as with a white or black surface
(for better contrast).
Applications
The company’s oval throughhole
LEDs, which are available
in 3 mm and 5 mm sizes, are
especially suited to display
applications; thanks to their
angle of reflection (from 15° to
100° resp. oval with 50°/100°
or 45°/90°), they feature excellent
beam characteristics.
Technologies
Color Spectrum
A list of the most commonly
used colors:
- Y – Yellow (586–595 nm)
- A – Amber red (612–624 nm),
primarily intended for use in
Europe
- S – Super red (626–639 nm),
primarily used in NAFTA
countries
Osram offers LEDs with the
latest “thin film” chip technology.
These boast an
extremely high degree of optical
efficiency, combined with
an output of approximately
75 %. To put this in context:
for a standard chip, the figure
is approx. 25 %.
Housing Technology
The new thin-film Topled®
LEDs, which are available in
Y – Yellow, R – Red, O –
Orange, S – Super red and
A – Amber red, offer optimum
brightness. These extremely
bright LEDs are perfect for
both indoor and outdoor applications,
such as passenger
information at bus stops and
railway stations, as well as for
backlighting and indicator
lamps. Last but not least, they
are suitable for all the various
automotive applications; special
quality feature: Osram is
“Automotive Certified” as
regards its new Thinfilm
Topled®.
Thinfilm Technology
It was primarily developed for
display customers. Examples:
L*T67F (Topled®), L*E6SF
(Power Topled®), L*E63F
(Power Topled® with lens).
In addition, many types can be
supplied with a black surface.
This improves color luminosity
and gives you the technological
edge so that you can stand
out from your competitors.
Brightness
The levels of brightness that
can be achieved are a decisive
factor for traffic signs and information
displays. Assuming
a typical, relatively narrow 30°
angle of reflection, Osram OS
SMT LEDs with lens compare
extremely favourably with
5 mm through-hole highbrightness
LEDs in terms of
the brightness levels that can
be achieved.
With their impressive beam
characteristics, the new thinfilm
Topleds® are also the perfect
solution for the tough
design requirements that all
customers within this market
segment tend to impose.

Colour and Brightness
Binning
Binning is a crucial factor in
many applications and is also
a much debated topic when it
comes to selecting LEDs and
LED manufacturers.
Osram Opto Semiconductors
and Sasco Holz are able to
offer you optimum support in
this regard.
Osram OS is able to meet the
key requirements during the
manufacturing process itself,
which involves a detailed sorting
process: each LED is individually
tested and classified
(using the specified testing
current).
The LEDs are sorted on the
basis of brightness, chromaticity
coordinate and forward
voltage so that each reel contains
just one category of LED.
This information is included on
the unit pack label (e.g. BIN:
LYT67F-U2-4-3B).
Sasco Holz employs intelligent
logistics systems. These are
used to store the manufacturer’s
BIN information as soon
as goods are received. If necessary,
this information can
subsequently be recalled for
a specific outbound consignment.
